WHAT IS FIBER OPTIC?
Fiber optic consists of or using thin flexible fibers with a glass core through which light signals can be sent with very little loss of strength.
Why I want to use this type of cabling for my business?
1. Data Security– coaxial cables allow a chance for “attackers’ to intercept network packets and communicate across the cable, fiber optic cables rely upon the use of light rather than electricity, making it more difficult to tap to get the info out
2. Non Conductive cables – any conductive cable can carry power surges or ground loops. Fiber optics can be made non conducive, making these cables economical and standard for many indoor apps
3. Eliminating spark hazards– Sparks aren’t dangerous unless you have an organization that is in a chemical plant or oil refinery where you are close to potentially explosive vapors. FO doesn’t carry current bc, it’s made out of glass
4.Ease of installation– wire cables are stiff & thicker making it hard to install in buildings. and are smaller and flexible
5. Higher bandwidth over long distances-Fiber optics have a large capacity to carry high speed signals over longer distances without repeaters than other types of cables.his however, doesn’t mean that optical fiber has infinite bandwidth, but it’s certainly greater than coaxial cables.
